Sybreed was formed in 2003 by vocalist Benjamin and guitarist Drop. They later recruited bassist Burn and drummer Alex. In their first year of existence, they concentrated on writing material for their debut album.
In 2004, Sybreed released their debut album Slave Design. They would spend some time performing in the US, then later returning to Europe where they toured for almost two years in support of the album.
In early 2006, drummer Alex left the band due to creative and personal issues. Sybreed would then go on a break for a few months. They would later ask Dirk Verbeuren of Soilwork and Scarve to do session drums while they recorded their next album. The band announced in December 2006 after recording Antares, that Kevin would take over drum duties permanently.
On July 7, 2007, it was announced that the band had signed a deal with Listenable Records for an October release of their new album Antares.
On June 13, 2008, Sybreed's official website announced that on August 15, 2008 they will release their newest album, Antares, in the United States with the bonus track "Plasmaterial" to be included.
Sybreed member Drop took part in two Celldweller Take It And Break It Remix Competitions, submitting "Switchback (Drop's Wave Remix)" and "Own Little World (Drop Remix)". Both were chosen from hundreds of submissions to be included on subsequent remix albums released by Celldweller's label FiXT Music.
On June 29, 2009, Sybreed's official website announced that the band and their bassist, Burn, will part ways. Although originally stated on the website that Burn would still participate in their US tour beginning on July 17, 2009, he did not make the trip to the US and instead they enlisted bass player Hector Gonzalez of Los Angeles, CA thrash band Flatline as a temporary bassist to complete the US tour. At the completion of the tour, in an update on their website dated August 31 2009, Sybreed confirmed Stephane as being their new full time bass player.
The band released their third studio album The Pulse of Awakening in Europe on November 16, 2009.
On April 7th, 2010, Sybreed's song "Doomsday Party" was released as a downloadable track for Rock Band (video game).
Sybreed's sound is aggressive, yet melodic. They are identified by machinegun-esque guitars, highly complex drumming, and groovy synthetic beats. Their vocal work makes use of distorted clean vocals and high pitch screams alike. To date, all of their albums showcase a wide variety of different syles and sounds, making their musical style subjectively broad.
